Human activity in the energy sector has significantly impacted the planet, raising concerns about survival as global temperatures could surpass 1.5°C by 2070 due to oil production and greenhouse gas emissions. As a major African economy and oil exporter, the Nigerian government is making actionable steps in tackling climate change by requiring oil companies to obtain licences that ensure reductions in carbon emissions.
This study will analyse the policy framework for these licences, exploring their benefits, challenges, and implications for the oil and gas industry while aligning with global climate targets. Recommendations for improving sustainability in this context will also be provided…
