Lagos State Government Unveils New Commercial Court to Boost Economic Growth

The Lagos State Government has officially unveiled the newly constructed Commercial Court of the High Court, strategically located at Tapa, Lagos Island. The court is envisioned as a pivotal institution to enhance physical and regulatory accountability between the state and its citizens.

Legallinkz reports that the new court facility will serve as an institutional tool for resolving economic disputes and promoting business confidence, ultimately supporting Lagos State’s drive toward greater economic prosperity.

During the unveiling ceremony, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the Commercial Court as a “game changer” equipped with cutting-edge technology to fast-track the resolution of business and commercial disputes.

“This court will usher in a new era where justice is delivered within months, not years,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He commended the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, for their unwavering commitment to advancing the state’s judicial infrastructure.

“Our judicial system is unrivaled due to the quality of minds it attracts, a product of our rigorous selection process. This initiative is commendable, and with the latest technology, I am confident that hearings and judgments will be swift,” the governor added.

The Lagos State Attorney General, Lawal Pedro, SAN, reiterated that the state government remains committed to utilizing the judiciary as a catalyst for economic growth through the effective enforcement of the rule of law.
He further disclosed that the newly established Lagos State Revenue Court would handle cases involving the recovery of taxes, levies, land use charges, and the prosecution of tax-related offenses.

Chief Judge Justice Kazeem Alogba emphasized that the new court complex symbolizes Lagos State’s continued dedication to improving the administration of justice. He noted that the Commercial Court would be central to fostering investor confidence and accelerating the efficient resolution of commercial disputes in the state.

With the unveiling of the new Commercial Court, Lagos State solidifies its position as a leader in judicial innovation and economic development in Nigeria.
