The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Sahabi Rabi’u, a 35-year-old man alleged to be responsible for the shocking murder of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
According to a detailed statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the suspect lured the woman and her infant to the outskirts of Sheme village, where he and an accomplice carried out the brutal killing.
Paternity Dispute Led to the Murder — Police Investigation
Police preliminary investigations revealed that the crime stemmed from a heated paternity dispute between Rabi’u and the nursing mother. The disagreement allegedly escalated, prompting the suspect and an accomplice—who is currently on the run—to conspire to eliminate both the woman and her child.
After killing the victims, the perpetrators reportedly burnt their bodies in a bid to conceal the crime and subsequently dumped the charred remains into a nearby well.

DSP Aliyu confirmed that the bodies have been recovered and taken for further forensic examination.
During interrogation, the police said Rabi’u confessed to participating in the crime, stating that he acted in collaboration with his friend who is now at large.
Security operatives have launched a manhunt for the fleeing accomplice, with the Command promising swift action to ensure he is apprehended.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, described the murder as “barbaric, inhumane, and deeply unacceptable”, assuring residents that the Command will pursue justice with full commitment.
“No stone will be left unturned,” the CP said, emphasising that all involved in the heinous act will face the full weight of the law.
The Command appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could aid in the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
Authorities assured that all information will be treated confidentially, and further updates on the investigation will be shared in due course.
