Two Iranians Face UK Terror Plot Charges

Two Iranian nationals have appeared in a British court charged over an alleged terrorism plot targeting the Jewish community in Manchester.

Rahman Salehi, 34, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, are accused of preparing terrorist acts after investigators alleged that potential targets, including Jewish locations in Manchester, had been placed under surveillance.

Prosecutors told the court that the alleged preparations involved an improvised explosive device and contact with another individual believed to be outside Britain.

The defendants did not enter pleas and were remanded in custody ahead of an October 23 hearing at the Old Bailey.

British authorities say the case is separate from another counter-terrorism investigation involving RAF Fairford, an airbase used by US forces.

Iran has denied involvement in plots attributed to it in Britain.

At this stage, prosecutors must still prove the allegations in court. Neither defendant has been convicted of any offence arising from the alleged plot.
