As the global community marks the International Day of Education, there is a renewed opportunity to reflect on the transformative power of education in shaping societies and empowering individuals.
Education remains the foundation upon which inclusive development, justice, and sustainable progress are built.
Speaking on the significance of the day, legal practitioner and former national officer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barth Okoye Aniche, emphasized the unique responsibility of lawyers in advancing educational access and equity.
“Education is not merely a social good; it is a fundamental right that underpins justice, equality, and opportunity. When education is inaccessible, society itself is diminished.”

According to him, members of the legal profession are strategically positioned to champion policies and initiatives that promote inclusive and quality education, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities.
“As lawyers, we possess the tools, voice, and influence to advocate for inclusive education policies, support initiatives that bridge educational gaps, and empower the next generation of leaders. Our role goes beyond the courtroom; it extends to shaping a fairer and more enlightened society.”
He further stressed that collective action within and beyond the Bar is essential to ensuring that education is treated as a right rather than a privilege.
“Together, through advocacy, policy engagement, and community support, we can drive meaningful change and help secure a future where education is accessible to all.”
He concluded by extending goodwill to stakeholders across the education and legal sectors.
“Happy International Day of Education. Let us remain committed to building a society where knowledge empowers, opportunity is shared, and no one is left behind.”
