Indonesia’s government has temporarily suspended TikTok’s operating licence after the platform refused to fully comply with a request to share data related to live-stream activities during recent anti-government protests.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said TikTok provided only partial information concerning traffic and alleged monetisation of live content linked to accounts suspected of online gambling, despite being given a September 23 deadline.
Alexander Sabar, Director-General of Digital Space Supervision, described the move as a firm enforcement of national regulations, noting that TikTok had violated obligations required of digital service providers operating in Indonesia.

While its licence has been suspended, TikTok remains accessible to users in Indonesia pending further regulatory decisions. The development underscores a growing tension between government oversight, platform accountability, and user privacy rights in one of TikTok’s largest global markets, with over 100 million active users.
