The House of Representatives has prohibited journalists from covering its investigative hearing into ₦15 million corruption allegations against crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS).
The Joint Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Services communicated the ban to the House press corps. This decision follows an initial invitation to the press to report on the proceedings.
Previously, the House adopted a motion to investigate the EFCC regarding allegations of receiving ₦15 million from Bobrisky.
The controversy escalated following claims by social media influencer Martins Otse, alleging that Bobrisky served his jail term in a private residence instead of the correctional facility. Bobrisky has denied these allegations, which have garnered significant national attention.
In response, the federal government suspended the officers overseeing the custodial centres in Kirikiri, Lagos State, to facilitate further investigations into the allegations. Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), stated that the investigation results would be made public once concluded.
