Amid increasing attacks on communities in Enugu’s Uzo Uwani Council Area, the Council Chairman, Chijioke Ezugwu, has issued a warning to traditional rulers, urging them to refrain from selling lands to foreigners. Ezugwu condemned the rising violence and abductions by criminal gangs, which have severely affected the local population.
In an effort to tackle the growing insecurity, the Chairman announced initiatives to enhance community safety. These include clearing bushy areas and establishing a vigilante squad to protect agricultural zones and ensure that farmers can work without fear of violence or crop destruction.
Ezugwu’s office also revealed the formation of a rapid response team, equipped with modern communication tools, to address emergency situations and improve road safety. The team’s primary mission is to eliminate hiding spots for criminals along key routes such as Ezukolo, Abbi, Nrobo, and Nimbo roads, which have been hotspots for road ambushes.
Additionally, to curb the increasing attacks on farmers by herdsmen, Ezugwu prohibited traditional rulers from engaging in land transactions with foreigners, cautioning that any ruler involved in such dealings would face serious consequences.
