The ill-fated 18-seater bus, bearing registration number PP512, was en route from Makurdi to Otukpo when it was intercepted by the armed assailants. According to a statement released by the company’s Information Officer, Mr. Johnson Daniel, the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, fatally shooting the driver, Mr. Samuel Agege, and a front-seat passenger.
In the midst of the chaos, three passengers reportedly managed to escape, while another passenger had disembarked earlier at Taraku town—narrowly avoiding the tragic fate of the others. The remaining 13 passengers were forcibly taken away by the attackers, whose motives remain unclear.
Benue Links Nigeria Limited expressed deep sorrow over the loss and trauma suffered by the victims and their families. “Benue Links Nigeria Limited extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and stands in solidarity with those whose loved ones remain in captivity.

We assure the general public that we are in constant communication with security agencies, who are making concerted efforts to rescue the abducted passengers,” the statement read.
The company also acknowledged and appreciated the swift response from law enforcement agencies and expressed confidence in their continued efforts to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, confirmed the incident. “A kidnap incident involving a Benue Links vehicle has been reported. More details will be made available shortly,” she said in a brief statement to the press.
The attack has sparked fresh concerns over the security situation in the state and the vulnerability of public transportation on intercity routes. It also underscores the ongoing threat posed by armed criminal groups operating in parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt region.
As of the time of filing this report, rescue operations and investigations are ongoing. The public is being urged to remain vigilant and report any useful information that may aid the authorities in their efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and rescue the abducted passengers safely.
