The Federal Road Safety Corps has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the tanker crash that sparked a fire beneath Otedola Bridge in Lagos, leaving two people injured.
The crash occurred at about 4:10 p.m. on Monday, October 19, on the outward section of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. A diesel-laden tanker plunged into the underpass and caught fire, triggering a multi-agency emergency response.
According to Premium Times, reporting an FRSC statement on Tuesday morning, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed directed investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the victims sustained severe burns. They were evacuated to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll-Gate.
Firefighters worked to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to surrounding infrastructure. LASTMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, FRSC personnel and police participated in the response.
Preliminary findings from the FRSC Lagos Sector Command identified excessive speed as a factor in the crash. That preliminary assessment should be distinguished from the outcome of the comprehensive investigation now ordered.
Mohammed warned tanker owners and fleet operators against placing delivery schedules and commercial considerations above safety. He called for stronger driver supervision, regular inspections and compliance with speed limits.
The FRSC said appropriate action would follow the investigation’s findings.
The immediate priorities remain the victims’ treatment and establishing precisely how a vehicle carrying combustible cargo lost control at a busy transport interchange.
