FIDA Cross River State Advocacy Visit to Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs
On February 24, 2025, the Executive Officers of FIDA Cross River State paid an advocacy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs, Cross River State, Honourable Edema Irom.
The Honourable Commissioner warmly welcomed the FIDA delegation, which included the Chairperson, Barr. Mrs. Affiong Onung, Vice Chairperson, Barr. Mrs. Maureen Nkiri, National Treasurer, Barr. Beatrice Awah, and other executive members.
FIDA Rivers State Branch Commemorates World Day of Social Justice

In her remarks, Honourable Edema Irom acknowledged FIDA’s significant contributions to women’s rights advocacy despite limited resources. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between FIDA and the Ministry and urged women to support and uplift each other. Furthermore, she encouraged FIDA to leverage technological tools and media to amplify their activities within and beyond the state.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Barr. Mrs. Affiong Onung and Barr. Mrs. Maureen Nkiri expressed their gratitude to the Honourable Commissioner for her time and support. They highlighted FIDA Cross River State’s ongoing initiatives for the protection and empowerment of women and children.
THREE-DAY RETREAT ORGANIZED BY FIDA NIGERIA, RIVERS BRANCH EXECUTIVE MEMBERS

The immediate past Chairperson, Barr. Ann Awah, further elaborated on one of the branch’s key projects—a Female Ward at the General Hospital for Women. She also revealed that plans are underway for a special outreach program as part of the International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations, for which the support of the Ministry for Women Affairs is highly sought.
