The Federal Government has directed vice chancellors of all federal universities to strictly implement the “no work, no pay” policy following the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
In a statement signed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the directive mandates university administrators to ensure that all employees who fail to perform their duties during the strike are not paid for the period of inactivity.
The minister instructed that roll calls be conducted, with compliance reports submitted to the National Universities Commission (NUC) for monitoring.
The directive, however, exempts members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) and the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA).

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the education system while urging ASUU to return to the negotiation table in the interest of students and the nation.
