A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to journalist and whistleblower Isaac Bristol, identified by the Nigerian police as the person behind the PIDOMNigeria account on X (formerly Twitter).
Bristol faces charges related to money laundering, the unlawful acquisition and dissemination of classified official documents, and cybercrime.
His arrest sparked a wave of reactions online, with many netizens calling for his immediate release. On Friday, Justice Emeka Nwite ruled to grant Bristol bail set at ₦5 million, with one surety of the same amount.
The ruling came after a motion on notice was filed by Deji Adeyanju, who leads Bristol’s legal defence team. Under the bail conditions, Bristol is required to surrender his passport to the court. The surety must also reside in Abuja, submit an affidavit of means, and provide evidence of three years of tax clearance, along with two passport-sized photographs.
