The Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Justice Hussain Baba Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting female legal practitioners in Nigeria, emphasizing their critical role in promoting justice, gender equality, and legal excellence.
Justice Hussain Baba Yusuf, a distinguished jurist with vast experience in the Nigerian judiciary, has been at the forefront of judicial reforms in the FCT. Since his appointment as Chief Judge, he has championed judicial efficiency, access to justice, and the welfare of legal practitioners. His tenure has been marked by policies that enhance judicial independence and inclusivity within the legal profession.

NBA Women Forum Abuja Chapter Pays Courtesy Visit to FCT Chief Judge
In furtherance of its commitment to gender advocacy and legal empowerment, the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF), Abuja Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Hussain Baba Yusuf. The delegation, led by the State Lead, ACE I Hadiza Afegbua, was warmly received at the High Court by the Hon. Chief Judge, alongside the Chief Registrar, Hajiya Hadiza Dodo, and the Chief Legal Adviser, Mr. Seyi Esq.
During the visit, Justice Baba Yusuf commended female legal practitioners for their resilience and contributions to the legal profession, particularly in the areas of gender justice, human rights, and access to legal services. He congratulated the NBAWF on the occasion of International Women’s Day, recognizing their dedication to promoting women’s rights and professional development.


FCT Judiciary’s Commitment to Women Lawyers
In his remarks, the Chief Judge assured the NBAWF of his full support in key areas, including:
- Capacity Building – Facilitating training and mentorship programs to enhance the skills of female lawyers.
- Access to Justice – Strengthening mechanisms that ensure women, especially indigent ones, have better legal representation.
- Gender Equality Initiatives – Supporting policies that promote inclusivity within the judiciary and legal profession.
- Access to Court Facilities – Granting the NBAWF permission to use FCT High Court facilities for events and legal outreach programs.

He further encouraged female lawyers to strive for excellence in their respective areas of practice while efficiently balancing their roles as legal professionals and NBAWF officers. Justice Baba Yusuf advised members of the forum to uphold cooperation, integrity, and the rule of law, emphasizing that unity among female lawyers would foster greater impact in the legal profession.

Pro Bono Legal Services and Future Collaboration
Recognizing the NBAWF’s commitment to justice, the Chief Judge expressed appreciation for their willingness to offer pro bono legal services to the less privileged. In light of this, he instructed the Chief Registrar, Hajiya Hadiza Dodo, to ensure that all proposed areas of collaboration between the FCT judiciary and the NBAWF are duly implemented and presented to him for approval.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing gender justice, professional development, and equitable access to legal services in the Federal Capital Territory.
