The family of Ruth Otabor has announced her passing on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a tragic accident involving a Dangote truck.
The news was conveyed through a statement by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, representing the Otabor family, including Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.
Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, had her life abruptly cut short just days after completing her academic journey. She sustained critical injuries during the August 13 accident, which led to the amputation of one of her legs and further complications that endangered her vital organs.
Justice Segun Ojienoh, speaking on behalf of Eko Solicitors, confirmed the family’s directive to inform the public.
“With a heavy heart, the Family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their Daughter, Sister, and Mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at about 06:30 hrs,” he said. “The Family is presently grieving and will appreciate a private moment to mourn the departed.”

Last week, Phyna had cried out publicly over Ruth’s worsening condition, accusing Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and the Dangote Group of negligence. She alleged that despite an agreement to fly her sister abroad for advanced treatment after initial stabilization at Lagoon Hospital in Lagos, the company delayed action.
“Dangote is gambling with my sister’s life,” Phyna lamented in a viral social media post. “If it were Dangote’s child in Ruth’s condition, would he not fly her out?”
Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be communicated to the public in due course.
