The Enugu State Police Command has identified the officer allegedly responsible for the fatal shooting of popular Ogene musician Okezie Chikezie Mba, also known as Igbo Jah, as Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji.
The shooting occurred on October 25, 2024, at the headquarters of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in Enugu State. According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the musician was leaving the squad’s premises when Ozonwanji allegedly opened fire under unclear circumstances. The incident is currently under investigation, and Governor Peter Mbah has ordered a full inquiry into the matter.
In a statement, Ndukwe confirmed that Inspector Ozonwanji is detained and will face the legal consequences upon completion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has visited Igbo Jah’s family alongside state officials, expressing his condolences and reassuring them that justice will be served.
Uzuegbu also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to discipline and accountability, assuring Enugu residents of a thorough investigation and fair judicial process in response to the tragic incident.
