Enugu Man Arrested for Severing Wife's Wrist Over Alleged Infidelity

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, for severing his wife’s left wrist with a machete over suspicions of infidelity.

The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in the Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Chinonso Echege, was reportedly attacked following accusations by her husband of extramarital affairs. Law-abiding members of the community assisted the police in apprehending the suspect, and the machete used in the attack was recovered.

Police Investigations Underway

The Enugu State Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that the suspect has confessed to the crime. According to Ndukwe, preliminary investigations indicate that the attack stemmed from the suspect’s suspicions of infidelity.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” SP Ndukwe said.

Police Commissioner’s Statement

The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure a thorough and swift investigation, followed by the prosecution of the suspect.

CP Uzuegbu also urged couples to seek peaceful and lawful means to resolve their differences, emphasizing the importance of love and understanding in addressing marital issues rather than resorting to violence.
