A devastating domestic incident has shocked residents of Ado-Ekiti, as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Leramo Caleb and his wife lost their lives in a violent confrontation that took place within their home.
The tragic event, which unfolded in the dead of night, was witnessed in part by their children, who were left traumatised by the horrifying experience.
ASP Caleb, a police officer from Ekiti State, reportedly got into an altercation with his wife following allegations of an extramarital affair. Before the incident, he had allegedly arrested a man suspected of having an affair with his wife, leading to heightened tensions in their household.
However, according to their son, there were no visible signs of conflict between his parents before the fatal confrontation.
The Nigeria Police Force has since confirmed the deaths, describing the situation as an unfortunate and tragic domestic event.
Son Recounts Peaceful Evening Before Tragic Incident
In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, the couple’s son described how the night had initially seemed peaceful, with no indication of any looming conflict. He stated that his parents shared a meal, laughed, and even prayed together before the unimaginable occurred.
“My father and my mum were playing that night of the incident. When my mum cooked, she went to visit her sick grandma because her grandma’s body was not well. She came back home by 9 pm.
Even my dad could not eat because my mum was not around. He waited for her to come back. So we ate when my mum came back. Even after we were playing, they did not fight. They talked to each other.
They even told us stories, funny stories. My father later went to take his Bible and prayed. After prayer, I asked my mum if we should go to bed. But my father instructed me to go and sleep in our (children’s) room.”
However, what started as a seemingly normal evening took a horrific turn in the middle of the night. The son was abruptly awakened by a struggle from his parents’ room.
“While sleeping (during midnight), I was just hearing sounds. I woke up and woke my sister up too. I told my sister that I was hearing the sound of a cutlass, indicating that my mum and my daddy were fighting.
My sister stood to open the door, but they had already locked it. My dad kept shouting from the room, and my mum too. So we ran to call our neighbours, and they pushed the door open. When the door was opened, we saw my daddy and my mum dead.”
Gruesome Details Emerge
Sources revealed that during the altercation, ASP Caleb’s wife allegedly used a sharp object to sever his manhood, causing him to bleed to death. Before succumbing to his injuries, he reportedly retaliated by attacking her with a machete, leading to her death.
The shocking incident has left the community in mourning, with many struggling to understand how a seemingly happy couple ended up in such a violent end. The police are currently investigating the matter, though initial reports suggest it was a case of extreme domestic violence.
This tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and mental health awareness within families to prevent similar incidents in the future.
