Eid al-Adha Message from Aare Olumuyiwa Akinboro, SAN, FCIArb (UK), FCIMC

Life Bencher | Past General Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association

On this sacred occasion of Eid al-Adha, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt prayers to our Muslim brothers and sisters across Nigeria and the legal profession. May this festival of sacrifice bring peace, clarity, renewed purpose, and divine blessings upon your homes and communities.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, reminds us of the unwavering faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who, in complete submission to Allah’s will, was willing to sacrifice his beloved son, Isma’il (AS). It is a timeless lesson in trust, devotion, and the noble virtue of giving up what we hold dear for the sake of a greater good.

As a member of the legal profession and one who has served the Nigerian Bar Association at the highest levels, I find this symbolism deeply relevant to our call to serve.

The Bar requires men and women who are willing to lead with selflessness, not for power, but for the preservation of justice, professional integrity, and the collective good of the legal community.

In this spirit of sacrifice and duty, allow me to acknowledge the sterling leadership of Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, President of the Nigerian Bar Association. His ongoing tenure is a clear demonstration of sacrificial leadership.

Mazi Afam has chosen the path of nation-building over convenience; of institution-strengthening over personal accolades. Whether through institutional reforms, defending the independence of the legal profession, or empowering young lawyers, his leadership reflects the values we commemorate this Eid: faithfulness, humility, and unwavering commitment to a cause greater than oneself.

As we mark this holy day with gratitude and reflection, let us remember that the essence of Eid is not in the feast, but in the sacrifice—in giving of ourselves to others, in upholding justice even when it is inconvenient, and in leading lives that leave a legacy of truth and compassion.

Dua (Prayer):

May Allah accept your sacrifices, grant you and your loved ones abundant peace, fulfilment, and guide us all toward lives of purpose and piety.
