The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Dr. Emeka Obegolu, SAN, has reiterated the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a catalyst for economic growth and investment attraction in Nigeria.

Dr. Obegolu made this known while participating in the maiden Alternative Dispute Resolution Colloquium of the College of Arbitrators Nigeria, held today in Enugu.

The event, organized under the leadership of Patrick Ikwueto, SAN, brought together judges, ADR practitioners, enthusiasts, and key stakeholders in the administration of justice.

Speaking as a panelist during a session on “The Effectiveness of ADR in Commercial and Cultural Disputes Resolution,” moderated by Okey Akobundu, FCIArb, Dr. Obegolu emphasized the need for practitioners, particularly in the South East, to adopt ADR as a complementary tool in dispute resolution.

He noted that ADR provides a more efficient, flexible, and business-friendly approach to resolving conflicts, which in turn builds investor confidence and strengthens the justice system.

“The enthusiasm demonstrated by the audience today is truly encouraging,” he remarked.

“With sustained collaboration among the Bench, Bar, and ADR institutions, this initiative will no doubt mark the beginning of a new era in dispute resolution practice across Nigeria.”

Dr. Obegolu commended the College of Arbitrators Nigeria for the successful organization of its inaugural colloquium and expressed optimism that it will become a recurring platform for dialogue, innovation, and growth in the nation’s ADR landscape.
