The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 32-year-old blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly cloning its official website to carry out a fraudulent recruitment scheme.
Details of the Arrest
The suspect, a graduate of the University of Uyo and content creator, was apprehended at his residence on Akpan Eno Street, Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday.

According to the DSS, Augustus created a fake version of the agency’s official website, where he advertised non-existent job opportunities. The scheme involved soliciting payments from unsuspecting job seekers under the guise of processing their applications.
DSS Statement
A DSS source confirmed the arrest, stating:
“The suspect is currently in custody and will soon be arraigned in court.”
Prior to the arrest, the DSS had issued a public disclaimer warning Nigerians against the fraudulent recruitment announcement and urging them to disregard it as a scam.

In a separate case, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed the detention of a police officer featured in a viral video involving the abuse of naira notes by the sons of Lagos businessman, Chief Rasaq Okoya.
The police described the officer’s involvement as unethical and contrary to the values upheld by the force. The officer is currently in custody and facing disciplinary action, though no mention has been made of any steps taken against the Okoya sons.
