The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Osogbo Branch hosted a public lecture as part of its 2025 Law Week, with the highly respected legal practitioner, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya FCIArb (Mrs. B), serving as moderator.

Themed “Appreciating the Gains of the Past in Moving Forward”, the session featured a keynote address that focused on federalism and the interplay amongst the various tiers of Government, prompting insightful interventions from panelists and participants alike.

In her contribution, Mrs. Badejo-Okusanya emphasised that Nigeria’s challenge is not the absence of a federal structure but rather the consistent failure to uphold and enforce the provisions of the Constitution. “Our problem is not with the framework,” she said, “but with the will to do the right thing.”

She underscored the fact that lawyers carry not just a professional obligation but also a moral and civic duty to remain vigilant in defending the Constitution and promoting the rule of law. “We must never let our guard down,” she charged, “for it is nothing less than what we are expected to do, to stand up for justice, especially for those who cannot stand up for themselves.”
