Chief Emeka Obegolu SAN Sends New Year Message to Nigerian Lawyers: I extend my heartfelt New Year greetings to every member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the entire legal community as we step into the promising dawn of 2026.
It is my sincere prayer that this year brings renewed vigour, sound health, professional fulfilment, and abundant blessings to us all.
The year 2025 was a landmark one for our profession. Under the able leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, we successfully hosted the Annual General Conference, which fostered robust deliberations on critical issues affecting both the Bar and the Bench, while also achieving unprecedented milestones in organisation and financial prudence.
Throughout the year, we remained steadfast in advocating for the welfare of lawyers, particularly through the enforcement of the Legal Practitioners (Remuneration for Legal Services) Order 2023, ensuring that members of the profession receive fair and just compensation for their expertise and dedication.
Despite prevailing economic challenges and ongoing judicial reforms, Nigerian lawyers demonstrated remarkable resilience, upholding the rule of law, defending justice, and contributing meaningfully to national development.
As we embrace 2026, I urge us all to recommit ourselves to the ideals of our noble profession integrity, excellence, and service.
We must continue to support initiatives that advance lawyer welfare, professional development, access to justice, and the independence of the judiciary.
Mentorship for young lawyers, ethical legal practice, and innovative approaches to service delivery must remain priorities in an increasingly digital and global legal environment.
The Nigerian Bar remains the conscience of the nation. Together, we must navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead with unity and purpose, strengthening our profession and its impact on society.
I pray that the Almighty God guides our steps, prospers our endeavours, and grants Nigeria peace and justice in the year ahead. I wish all my Learned Friends a happy, prosperous, and fulfilling New Year.
