In a surprising diplomatic development, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has reportedly made a historic offer to the Nigerian government, proposing an exchange deal involving rare earth materials in return for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to credible diplomatic sources, the Moroccan monarch, known for his Pan-African ideals and strong advocacy for continental unity, personally reached out to the Nigerian presidency with what he described as a “symbolic and humanitarian gesture” aimed at restoring justice and fostering peace across Africa.
“I wish to write my name in the history books for standing up for Nnamdi Kanu a man history will never forget,” King Mohammed VI was quoted as saying.
“I want to be remembered as the African king who stood for justice and truth when others kept silent.”

The Moroccan ruler reportedly emphasized that his position is not politically motivated but born out of a sense of African brotherhood and justice.
He also expressed admiration for Nnamdi Kanu’s resilience and courage, saying that “Africa must protect its own sons, not silence them.”
In a rare rebuke of Nigeria’s internal handling of ethnic and political issues, King Mohammed VI reportedly criticized the treatment of the Igbo people, describing them as “the backbone of Nigeria’s unity and progress.”
“Nigeria does not deserve the Igbos,” he declared. “They are the reason this country still stands, yet Nigeria fails to see that. Instead of honoring them, the nation punishes their courage.”
The King is said to have stressed that his appeal should not be seen as interference in Nigeria’s domestic affairs, but rather as a moral call for reconciliation, dialogue, and justice.

“Africa must learn to heal itself. If Nnamdi Kanu falls, a part of Africa’s conscience falls with him. I will not stand by in silence,” he said passionately.
Analysts describe this move as unprecedented in African diplomacy, marking the first time a reigning monarch has publicly offered natural resources in pursuit of another nation’s prisoner release.
Morocco, which holds one of the world’s largest reserves of rare earth minerals, critical materials used in high-tech industries, is reportedly proposing a trade arrangement that could benefit Nigeria’s energy and technology sectors in exchange for Kanu’s freedom.
As of press time, the Nigerian presidency has not issued any official response to the reported offer.
However, international observers suggest that if confirmed, this could open a new chapter in Pan-African diplomacy, merging economic cooperation with humanitarian intervention.
Meanwhile, pro-Biafra groups and human rights advocates have hailed the Moroccan monarch’s gesture as “courageous and noble,” urging African leaders to emulate his moral leadership and commitment to justice.
