The dispute over the “Blue Silks” professional distinction has taken another turn, with its proponents petitioning the State Security Service and Public Complaints Commission.
According to TheNigeriaLawyer’s October 19 report, the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners and a Nigerian Law Society faction complained about actions attributed to Supreme Court Chief Registrar Kabir Eniola Akanbi.
The petitioners, including Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, argued that disciplinary steps concerning participating lawyers should await the outcome of pending litigation.
They maintain that the distinction was created for non-litigation practitioners and is separate from the statutory rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Their allegations against the Chief Registrar remain unproven. The report reviewed did not include his response to the fresh petitions.
The petitions do not establish the legality of the distinction or misconduct by any official. Those questions remain contested within the wider professional and legal dispute.
