I extend my warmest congratulations on the commencement of the 2024/2025 legal year.
Today, we gather to mark the beginning of a new legal year, a moment of reflection, growth, and renewal. I extend warm congratulations to the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary on this significant milestone.
As we embark on this new journey, I urge us to prioritise structural and attitudinal reforms, embracing change to enhance our judiciary’s effectiveness and efficiency. Let us foster collaboration between the bench and the bar, recognising our shared commitment to justice.

I call for the establishment of specialised courts for gender-based violent (GBV) cases and a functional customary court of appeal in the state.
Moreover, to address GBV effectively, we need a multifaceted approach, including policy development, community engagement, and support services. Establishing specialised courts can provide survivors with easier access to justice.
As National Treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, the largest bar in Africa, I pledge to work tirelessly to promote lawyers’ welfare, fair remuneration, and access to work. I extend my deepest gratitude to all members for their support in my emergence.
I look forward to collaborating with the Akwa Ibom State Judiciary to drive positive change.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Blessing Udofa-Poromon AICMC
