Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Kallah Afogo Community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State late on Sunday, killing six people and abducting several others, including nurses and patients from a local hospital.

The attack, which occurred around 11:15 pm, saw the assailants break into homes, terrorizing residents and taking captives. Among the victims were Garkuwa Alfarma, Buhari Maidiga, Uba Auta, Yakubu Gaku, and Atabata Naallah. One resident, who courageously chased the attackers into the bush, was killed and his body reportedly mutilated.

After the Kallah assault, the bandits moved to Bakin Pah in Maro Ward, within the same council area, where they killed another person and kidnapped six more people.

Maigari Ben, a local community leader, has called on security agencies to urgently bolster their presence and efforts in the region to protect residents and secure the release of those abducted.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Kuyello, Birnin-Gwari Local Government Area, two nurses and several patients were kidnapped from a Primary Health Care Centre. According to a local vigilante, Musa Alhassan, the bandits initially targeted a nearby school before shifting their focus to the healthcare facility when they found the school deserted.

“They arrived asking for students at the Government Day Secondary School around 9 a.m. on Sunday, but upon realizing it was empty, they stormed the healthcare centre and began kidnapping people,” Alhassan said.

The attackers, armed with guns and machetes, abducted two female nurses and an unknown number of patients from the facility. The community has been thrown into panic as efforts to stop the kidnappers proved futile.

As of now, the Kaduna State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the attack. Local residents are calling for immediate action to address the increasing violence and abductions in the region.
