Bandit Leader Kachalla Killed in Violent Clash with Rival Faction in Kaduna

Kachalla Dogo Isah, a notorious bandit leader infamous for orchestrating brutal attacks in Kaduna State, has reportedly been killed in a violent clash with a rival faction of repentant bandits.

The deadly confrontation occurred on January 7, 2025, in Kachia Forest when Dogo Isah and his gang attempted to rustle cattle from a camp led by Kachalla Musa, a repentant bandit leader who had embraced a government peace initiative.

Details of the Clash

According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, the clash escalated quickly, resulting in Dogo Isah’s death alongside two of his gang members. Makama shared this information via his X handle.

Kachalla Musa and his faction had recently committed to a peace initiative facilitated by local stakeholders and the Kaduna State government, aiming to encourage former bandits to surrender their arms and abandon violent activities. Despite efforts to involve him, Dogo Isah rejected the initiative and continued his criminal operations.

A History of Violence

Dogo Isah was known for terrorizing communities in Kachia and Kajuru local government areas. He was also linked to several high-profile attacks, including:

  • 2022: Killing members of the 305 Artillery Demo Regiment in Makaranta Forest, Kagarko LGA.
  • 2022: Ambushing and killing a disbanded Sect 4 OPWP officer near Gadan Mallam village along the Abuja-Kaduna Road.
  • January 5, 2025: Attacking Nigerian Navy personnel at a checkpoint in Kujama, killing two officers and stealing their AK-47 rifles.

Dogo Isah was a cousin of Tukur Sharme, another notorious bandit leader killed in September 2024 during a similar factional dispute.

Impact of the Death

While Dogo Isah’s death is seen as a significant victory against banditry in Kaduna State, it has raised concerns about potential reprisals within Kachalla Musa’s faction. Security agencies and stakeholders are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
