The Inspector-General of Police has arraigned a 23-year-old man, Ibrahim Abubakar, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged kidnapping and killing of cleric Nicholas Alfa and another man, Elijah Nweke.
Abubakar was arraigned on Thursday, October 22, 2026, before Justice Salim Ibrahim on a six-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/618/2026, according to a report by Galaxy TV.
The charges include allegations relating to kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms and hostage-taking resulting in the deaths of the two victims.
Six-count charge before the court
The case places the alleged abduction and deaths of Alfa and Nweke before the Federal High Court for determination through the criminal justice process.
The prosecution will be required to establish the allegations against the defendant with admissible evidence. The defence, in turn, is entitled to challenge the prosecution’s case and present any defence permitted by law.
The charge number identifies the case before the court, while the six counts set out the separate allegations the defendant must answer. The specific wording and particulars of each count were not fully detailed in the report reviewed for this article.
An arraignment marks a formal stage in criminal proceedings. It brings the defendant before the court to answer the charges and allows the case to proceed in accordance with the applicable criminal procedure.
The seriousness of the allegations does not remove the defendant’s right to a fair hearing. The prosecution must prove the charges, and the court must determine the case on the evidence and applicable law rather than on the allegations alone.
Abubakar remains presumed innocent unless and until a court of competent jurisdiction establishes his guilt.
