The seminar, themed “2027 General Elections: Promoting Peace, Rule of Law and Responsible Political Leadership,” will examine the role of the legal profession and other democratic stakeholders in promoting peaceful elections, respect for the rule of law and responsible political leadership ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The announcement was made by the branch’s Publicity Secretary, F. N. Mayaki, Esq., who described the appointment as an opportunity to bring experienced legal insight to an important national conversation on electoral integrity and democratic governance.
Mahmud Magaji, SAN, is expected to deliver the keynote address, drawing on his experience in legal practice to examine issues surrounding the conduct of elections, constitutional governance, political responsibility and the protection of democratic institutions.
The choice of theme comes as Nigeria prepares for another general election cycle, with questions surrounding electoral credibility, political conduct, security, institutional independence and public confidence in democratic processes remaining central to national discourse.
The seminar is expected to provide a platform for legal practitioners and other participants to reflect on how the rule of law can contribute to peaceful political competition, responsible leadership and the protection of citizens’ democratic rights.
