Celebrating a Legal Practitioner Advancing Women’s Rights, Family Justice and Community Advocacy
Chioma Onyenucheya-Uko is a legal practitioner, certified arbitrator, trained mediator, gender and human rights advocate, and the Chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Abuja Branch.
With nearly 20 years of professional experience, this Principal of Zest Legal Consults (a law firm in Abuja, Nigeria), has built a career around legal practice, advocacy, public engagement and the protection of women and children.
Zest Legal Consults
Her leadership journey within the legal community includes serving as Vice-Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), Chairperson of its Human Rights Committee, and Publicity Secretary of FIDA Abuja before emerging as the Branch Chairperson in December 2024 for the 2024–2027 tenure.

A family law practitioner, and a public enlightenment enthusiast, Onyenucheya-Uko has consistently used her professional experience to promote legal awareness and address issues affecting families, women and children.
Through her family law talk show, Late Night Intercourse with Chioma, she creates conversations around marital relationships, family responsibilities, women’s rights and the importance of legal knowledge in everyday life and relationships.
Late Night Intercourse with Chioma,
Under her leadership, FIDA Abuja has continued to undertake advocacy and community engagement initiatives addressing gender-based violence, child protection, harmful traditional practices and access to justice.
Among these engagements was a community legal awareness programme in Gwarimpa, Abuja, where families were sensitised on issues including domestic violence, child neglect, early and forced marriage, and harmful inheritance practices.

In October 2026, as FIDA Abuja marks its 35th anniversary, she also led the Branch’s girl-child rights campaign to a school in Kuje, where students were engaged on personal safety education, their rights and protection against abuse.
Her professional interests extend beyond litigation and institutional leadership to mentorship, public education and the encouragement of younger female lawyers to participate meaningfully in the legal profession.
As Chairperson of FIDA Abuja, she continues to occupy a position within an organisation whose mandate centres on the advancement of women’s rights, the protection of children and the promotion of equality and access to justice.

With her periodic Wine, Words & Wisdom sanctuary experience, which she specially curates as an intimate circle for women to exhale and gain empowering insight, and the Zest Eagle Tribe mentorship hangout she also periodically hosts for younger female lawyers, and her current role as a mentor on the WISCAR Women in Law Mentoring Programme (WILMP), Chioma Onyenucheya-Uko represents a dimension of legal practice in which the law is not confined to the courtroom but also serves as a tool for education, mentorship, advocacy and social change.
LegalLinkz celebrates her professional journey and contributions to the legal community.
