Since my call to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 with a Second Class (Upper Division) degree, my professional trajectory has been anchored by a rigorous commitment to institutional integrity and intellectual precision.
Law is not static; it demands continuous alignment with societal shifts and economic realities. A pivotal inflection point in my career occurred in 2016 when the Chief Justice of Nigeria appointed me as a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a designation that deepened my responsibility toward formal legal authentication and public service administration.
Today, as the Head of the Corporate Law Practice Department at the Nigerian Law School Headquarters in Abuja, my primary focus is structural preparation.
Equipping junior lawyers for contemporary corporate practice requires moving beyond rote theory into critical commercial analysis, transactional foresight, and regulatory fluency.
Institutionalizing Niche Expertise: The Genesis of ICESLAD
The commercial expansion of Africa’s creative, media, and athletic sectors has outpaced traditional legal training frameworks. Talent alone does not build sustainable enterprises; contractual architecture, intellectual property monetization, and predictable dispute resolution mechanisms do.
To address this structural deficit, I founded the Institute of Capacity Building, Entertainment and Sports Law Development (ICESLAD). ICESLAD operates at the intersection of industry demand and academic rigor, focusing on:
Specialized Practitioner Training:
Designing curricula that translate complex statutory provisions into practical drafting and negotiation skills.
- Empirical Research: Generating contextualized legal commentary that reflects the realities of African markets.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Convening forums to align regulators, investors, and practitioners within the creative and sports economies.
Bar Leadership and Institutional Governance
Meaningful reform requires active participation in professional administration. My involvement in institutional governance spans several key bodies:
- Secretary, Nigerian Bar Association (Cradle Bar), Bwari Branch: Directing localized professional welfare and structural development.
- Member, NBA National Executive Council (NEC): Contributing to macro-level policy formulation and association governance.
- Member, NBA Legal Education Committee & National Sports Committee: Working to harmonize academic training with modern industry requirements.
- Member, NBA Section on Business Law (SBL): Engaging with corporate policy standards that govern commercial practice in Nigeria.
Beyond the Bar, my service on the National Ethics Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) allows me to contribute directly to regulatory compliance, governance integrity, and institutional accountability within sports administration.
Scholarship and the Mechanics of Sports Law
My academic research culminated in a Ph.D. in Law with a specialization in Sports Law, focusing specifically on contract structuring, dispute settlement frameworks, and arbitration mechanisms.
Through my publications, including a leading text on Sports Law and Practice in Africa and various peer-reviewed journal articles, I examine how specialized legal doctrines intersect with commercial realities. My writing spans several core disciplines:
- Sports & Entertainment Contracts: Designing enforceable frameworks that protect intellectual property, image rights, and media distribution revenues.
- Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR): Advocating for specialized arbitration tribunals to bypass traditional court congestion in commercial and sports disputes.
- Legal Entrepreneurship & Data Protection: Preparing practitioners to navigate compliance mandates and build modern, scalable practices.
As Africa’s professional landscapes mature, the legal profession must anticipate, rather than merely react to market demands.
My work remains focused on raising professional standards, institutionalizing specialized training, and preparing legal practitioners to compete effectively on the global stage.
