The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned Nigerian-American Oluwatobi Adegoke before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Lagos State Special Offences Court over an alleged cross-border vehicle-import fraud.
The EFCC said Adegoke was arrested in July following an investigation into transactions worth more than $320,000, approximately ₦434.88 million.
Investigators allege that Adegoke was connected to a United States-based network that offered to procure and ship vehicles to Nigerian buyers.
According to the Commission, Adegoke circulated photographs of a 2024 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG and represented that he could purchase and ship the luxury vehicle from the United States.
Two victims allegedly transferred more than $320,000 in connection with the proposed transactions.
The arraignment moves the allegations from investigation into formal judicial proceedings, where prosecutors will now have to establish the elements of the offences charged.
Adegoke remains presumed innocent unless the prosecution proves its allegations beyond reasonable doubt.
