A sexual-offence allegation dating back to 2023 has moved into formal court proceedings in Lagos following the arraignment of the head of the Igala community in the state.
Muhammad Salifu, identified as Head of the Igala Community in Lagos State, has been charged to court over the alleged defilement of a teenager.
The case followed investigation by the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed that the suspect was charged with defilement contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Proceedings have been adjourned until November 19, 2026, for continuation.
The allegation relates to an incident said to have occurred in 2023 when the survivor was 15.
The allegations remain subject to proof before the trial court, and the defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence until convicted.
