Kim Kardashian Awarded €1 Over Paris Jewel Heist

A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 in symbolic damages over the 2016 armed robbery in which she was restrained at gunpoint and robbed of jewellery worth millions of dollars.

Reuters reported on September 15 that Kardashian deliberately sought the nominal sum from some of the people convicted over the robbery, making the civil award principally symbolic rather than compensatory.

During the 2016 attack at a Paris hotel, robbers disguised as police officers restrained Kardashian and took jewellery that included a diamond engagement ring reportedly worth about $4 million. Most of the stolen items have never been recovered.

Eight people were convicted in 2025 of offences connected to the heist. A former hotel receptionist affected by the robbery received a substantially larger award of about €110,000.

The €1 award illustrates an important feature of civil justice: for some victims, obtaining formal judicial recognition of a wrong can carry significance beyond the monetary value of damages awarded..
