The Cross River State Forum of the Nigerian Bar Association has firmly rejected reports alleging that the Office of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation directed the postponement of the 2026 NBA National Elections, describing such a directive as unconstitutional, unwarranted, and inconsistent with the Nigerian Bar Association’s Constitution.
In a press statement jointly endorsed by the Chairmen of the NBA Ikom and Calabar Branches, Ikpi Ayeni Daniel and Enome J. Amatey, respectively, the Forum maintained that the Attorney General has no constitutional authority over the internal decision-making processes of the NBA or its electoral organs.
The Forum expressed confidence in the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), affirming its ability to conduct free, fair, and credible elections into the Association’s National Offices and the General Council of the Bar.
It also declared its full support for the ECNBA’s resolve to proceed with the elections as scheduled.

The Cross River NBA Forum further endorsed the position earlier articulated by NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, while commending his administration and the National Executive Council (NEC) for their steadfast leadership.
The Forum urged the NBA leadership to remain focused and undistracted as it guides the Association through a smooth democratic transition.
