Detail Dispute Lawyers, establised on 16 March 2026, represents the fusion of Broderick Bozimo and Company’s fivedecade disputes legacy with the contemporary arbitration practice of Laura Alakija & Co. The firm is led by founding partners Isaiah Bozimo SAN and Laura Alakija FCIArb, who bring together extensive experience in commercial dispute resolution and international arbitration.
The launch reflects a practical feature of commercial disputes that is familiar to many participants in major projects. Disagreements rarely emerge fully formed. They usually develop gradually during the life of a commercial relationship.
Projects in sectors such as energy, infrastructure and finance often extend over several years and involve multiple parties, layered contractual obligations and regulatory considerations. Over time, the commercial environment in which those arrangements were made may evolve, and the assumptions that shaped the original agreements may begin to shift.
In that setting, differences in interpretation can arise. Parties may take different views on the meaning of contractual provisions or on how obligations should be performed in changing circumstances. Questions about delays, variations in project conditions or payment arrangements can also affect the relationship between the participants.

Many such issues are addressed through commercial discussions within the project itself and are resolved without formal proceedings.
In other situations, however, the underlying disagreement may continue to develop. Positions become more clearly defined, contractual provisions receive closer scrutiny, and the parties begin to consider the dispute-resolution mechanisms in their agreements.
At that stage, the record created during the project’s life can become significant. Correspondence between the parties, notices issued under the contract and the steps taken to address emerging concerns may later form part of the material considered in arbitration or litigation proceedings.
The founders of Detail Dispute Lawyers say this practical dimension of disputes influenced the way the firm has been organised. The practice focuses on domestic and international arbitration, arbitration-related court proceedings, complex commercial litigation and dispute strategy.
The firm also works in alliance with Detail Commercial Solicitors, a Nigerian law firm that advises clients on corporate transactions and regulatory matters. The alliance allows lawyers from both firms to collaborate when disagreements arise within commercial arrangements that corporate lawyers originally helped to structure.

Bozimo previously served as Attorney General of Delta State and currently serves as Vice President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He acts as counsel and arbitrator in commercial disputes.
Alakija acts in commerical and investment-related arbitration matters under several international arbitration rules and has represented clients in disputes involving infrastructure and commercial projects.
According to the founders, understanding how disagreements develop within commercial relationships can be an important part of resolving disputes effectively.
