Abuja | December 12, 2025 – A woman identified as Hajia Ngozi is currently being unlawfully detained at the Garki Police Station in Abuja after allegedly rejecting sexual advances from Hon. Asika James Onwordi, the Traditional Prime Minister of the Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Delta State.

Multiple sources confirmed to SaharaReporters that Ngozi’s arrest followed her refusal to participate in illicit activities allegedly proposed by Onwordi, raising serious questions about abuse of power, police complicity, and gender-based intimidation.

Alleged Indecent Proposal and Harassment

According to information obtained by SaharaReporters, Onwordi allegedly propositioned the woman and offered her ₦5,000,000 to procure explicit recordings of other women known to her.

Ngozi reportedly declined on moral and marital grounds, a rejection that allegedly sparked a confrontation which later escalated into intimidation, coercion, and the involvement of police officers acting outside lawful boundaries.

Victim Detained While Alleged Perpetrator Walks Free

Rather than detain the politician over the allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, inducement, and abuse of office, police officers instead arrested Ngozi. She remains in custody at Garki Police Station under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ahmodu Mohammed.

Voice recordings obtained by SaharaReporters captured a heated exchange inside the station between Ngozi and Onwordi. In one clip, she accuses him of physically assaulting her and seizing her phone:

“You stole my phone, you beat me, and you called me a childless woman. They saw how you seized my phone. You are hitting me, you even arrested me,” she said.

Ngozi also questioned why officers were asking her to refund money tied to the illicit demands she rejected.

“Police, you are telling me to send the money back; what money? Do you know what the money is meant for?” she asked.

Onwordi, in the same recording, denied her claims and verbally demeaned her, saying:

“Is it my fault that you cannot carry a pregnancy? Go and sit down. Officers, see this woman, she’s harassing me.”

Police Remain Silent

When contacted, DPO Ahmodu Mohammed refused to answer calls and did not respond to messages regarding the controversial detention.

Human Rights Group Petitions Police Over Unlawful Detention

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has submitted a petition to the Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (CRU), calling the arrest unlawful and alleging deep police complicity.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Okechukwu Nwanguma, RULAAC described the case as disturbing and symptomatic of wider misuse of police authority.

According to the petition:

“Hon. Asika James Onwordi allegedly made sexual advances towards the said woman, which she rejected as a married woman. He thereafter allegedly induced her with ₦5,000,000 to procure sex tapes of other women. A dispute subsequently arose, and Onwordi is now allegedly using his influence to coerce, intimidate, and criminalize a civil/private issue.”

RULAAC warned that Ngozi’s continued detention reflects:

  • gross abuse of police powers
  • unlawful detention
  • extortion
  • gender-based harassment
  • violation of constitutional rights

The group urged the CRU to intervene immediately by securing Ngozi’s release and launching a full-scale investigation.

Calls for Accountability

RULAAC specifically demanded that the CRU:

  • query and discipline any police officer involved in the unlawful arrest
  • investigate Onwordi for alleged sexual harassment, coercion, and misuse of police influence
  • ensure the police are not used as instruments of intimidation, extortion, or sexual exploitation

The organisation stated it is ready to cooperate fully to ensure that justice is served and that the Nigeria Police Force ceases to function as a de facto debt-recovery agency or personal enforcement tool for influential individuals.

As the situation develops, Nigerians continue to express concern over the growing trend of powerful individuals exploiting law enforcement agencies to settle personal disputes and silence victims.
