The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), working through its INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has successfully repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish national, Acar Huseyin, to the Republic of Turkey. Huseyin will face his outstanding prison sentence following his conviction for fraud.
Huseyin, who was convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court, had fled Turkey shortly after the judgment was handed down. He was attempting to evade serving a substantial sentence of 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days. Following his escape, he traveled through the Middle East before eventually entering Nigeria.
The international operation began in July 2025 after INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice, which is an international request for member countries to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.
Acting on this alert, INTERPOL NCB Abuja initiated discreet, intelligence-led operations which ultimately led to Huseyin’s arrest in Abuja. Following the completion of necessary extradition documentation and through collaboration with relevant international partners, the fugitive was successfully repatriated to Istanbul to commence his sentence.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, publicly commended the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism in executing the operation. He firmly reassured the international community that Nigeria would “not serve as a refuge for any fugitive or escaped convict.”
The IGP emphasized the NPF’s sustained commitment to honoring international obligations, strengthening police-to-police cooperation, and actively supporting global efforts against transnational crime.
