Employee rights are fundamental workplace protections that ensure fair wages, equal opportunities, and a safe working environment for all employees. In Nigeria’s rapidly evolving economy, the employer-employee relationship is critical for sustaining productivity and driving national development.
To keep this relationship strong and effective, employees must be protected by a comprehensive legal framework that ensures fairness, safeguards their welfare, and upholds the principles of decent work. These protections are essential not only for the well-being of employees but also for fostering industrial harmony and a safe, productive work environment.
This article examines the key provisions of Nigerian law, primarily the Labour Act and other relevant legislation, which define, protect, and enforce these essential workplace rights.
