His quest for justice and human development led him to study law in 1963, earning his LL.B (Hons) in 1966 and being called to the Nigerian Bar in 1971.

For over four decades, Chief Obegolu maintained a vibrant private legal practice, offering advisory services to individuals, corporations, and government bodies.

His professional journey was marked by humility, brilliance, and a relentless commitment to fairness.

He served in several capacities including Member of the Council of Legal Education (1991–1994), Member of the Anambra State Election Petition Tribunal (1997), and Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee in the old Anambra State.

Beyond the Bar, Chief Obegolu was a true community pillar. He held the traditional titles of Ezeani Ononiwu and Onowu (Prime Minister) of Obeledu Town (1999–2002).
