The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, to November 20, 2025, for the hearing of all pending applications.
During the resumed proceedings, prosecuting counsel, Mr. E. A. Inegbenoise, informed the court that the matter was slated for arraignment. However, he noted that the defendants had filed a preliminary objection to the charges and requested time to respond, as his reply was only served in court on the same day.

Defence counsel Mr. Tope Temokun, representing Sowore and Sahara Reporters Ltd., confirmed receipt of the reply and likewise asked for time to file their response. Both parties agreed to return on November 20 to argue all outstanding motions.
Additionally, Mr. Marshal Abubakar, representing Sahara Reporters Inc., appeared “in protest” but declined to give details afterward. Mr. Hamza Dantani, on behalf of the Nigerian Bar Association under the Citizens Liberties Committee, was also present.
Presiding judge Justice Emeka Nwite granted the adjournment, noting that since counsel had agreed to the date, all pending applications would be heard then.
The charges against Sowore and Sahara Reporters, filed in August, relate to reports published on Sahara Reporters about an alleged police promotion scandal and Sowore’s involvement in protests by retired police officers demanding pension reforms.
