As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, Chairman of the 2025 NBA Annual General Conference Planning Committee, has extended warm felicitations to members of the legal profession, praising their tireless dedication to justice, equity, and the rule of law as the bedrock of the nation’s progress.
In his Independence message, Obegolu noted that the anniversary is not merely a commemoration of freedom from colonial rule but a call to reflect on Nigeria’s collective journey and the pivotal role of the legal profession in shaping a just and prosperous nation.

“Today, we stand together to honour the resilience, courage, and unity that define Nigeria while renewing our commitment to shaping a brighter future for our beloved country. As guardians of the law, we are the torchbearers of hope, defending the rights of the voiceless, upholding fairness in the face of adversity, and fostering a society where justice prevails over impunity. Your work in courtrooms, communities, and policy arenas continues to weave the fabric of a stronger, more equitable nation,” he said.
Acknowledging the economic, social, and political challenges facing Nigeria, Obegolu described lawyers as “not just advocates but architects of hope, crafting solutions, bridging divides, and championing reforms that align with the aspirations of our people.”
He urged members of the Bar to let the Independence Day celebration inspire resilience, innovation, and collaboration in ensuring that the rule of law remains a beacon of hope for every Nigerian.
“As we celebrate, let us recommit to the values of integrity, professionalism, and service that define the Nigerian Bar Association and our noble profession. Let us draw inspiration from the sacrifices of our founding fathers and mothers, whose vision of a free and united Nigeria continues to guide us.
Together, we can build a nation where justice is not a privilege but a right, where opportunities abound, and where every citizen’s dignity is upheld,” he added.
Obegolu further called on lawyers to hold fast to hope and wield their expertise with compassion, stressing that Nigeria’s greatness lies in their collective hands.
