Legal practitioner and ethics advocate Barth Okoye Aniche, Esq., has congratulated the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ondo Branch on the successful organisation of its 2025 Law Week, describing the event as a timely and necessary intervention in the profession’s ongoing discourse on ethical decline.

This year’s Law Week, themed “Dying Embers of Professional Ethics: Blunted Sword of the Gate Keepers”, held from August 8 to 13, 2025, at the Alpha Presidential Hall, Sabo, Ondo, brought together leading voices in law, including Chief Wole Olanipekun, CFR, SAN, who chaired the event, and Prof. Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, who delivered the keynote address.

Aniche, renowned for his consistent advocacy on professional discipline and reform, commended the Ondo Branch for curating a programme that does not merely reflect on present challenges but also inspires commitment to foundational values.

“The gatekeepers of justice must first guard their own conscience,” Aniche noted. “We cannot afford to be silent spectators while the flame of integrity flickers. This theme confronts us with a mirror, and we must look deeply.”

He stressed that the erosion of ethical standards among legal practitioners threatens the very foundation of justice delivery, urging young and senior lawyers alike to renew their allegiance to the principles that dignify the legal profession.

Aniche concluded with a call for the week’s reflections to translate into actionable conduct: “Let this Law Week not end with words alone, but with renewed courage to uphold the honour of our profession in every courtroom, chamber, and cause.”

The Law Week concluded with a dinner at the Robert Ware Event Centre, Ondo City, marking the end of a successful, reflective, and impactful programme.
