In a remarkable display of professionalism and purpose, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sokoto Branch, under the visionary leadership of its Chairperson, Rashidat Mohammed, successfully held a high-level Capacity Building Training Program on the 2023 Rules of Professional Conduct (RPC) on Saturday, 26th July 2025 — an event widely hailed as a turning point in the branch’s continuing legal education efforts.

The training, which drew commendation from stakeholders within and outside the legal profession, affirms the growing influence and excellence of women in leadership across the NBA.

Rashidat Mohammed’s commitment to capacity-building and ethical reawakening within the profession reflects a leadership style grounded in diligence, discipline, and vision — a refreshing standard in modern Bar administration. Her example continues to highlight the invaluable role of women in steering the legal community toward higher standards of practice.

Featuring two respected thought leaders in the legal profession — Hon. Justice Muhammed Muhammed and Hussaini Zakariya, SAN — the program delivered a deep and sobering reflection on the ethical foundations of legal practice in Nigeria today.

In his lecture, Hon. Justice Muhammed Muhammed addressed “Professional Courtesies as a Means of Maintaining the Integrity of the Legal Profession under the RPC 2023.”

He cautioned against the eroding culture of civility within the Bar, emphasizing that mutual respect, humility, and adherence to professional courtesies are essential not only for individual conduct but for preserving the nobility of the legal profession as a whole.

On his part, Hussaini Zakariya, SAN dissected the theme “Unethical Behaviors under the RPC 2023: Duties of the Courts in the Prevention of Unethical Advocacy in Nigeria.” With characteristic clarity and conviction, the Learned Silk examined various instances of ethical breaches and the proactive role the judiciary must continue to play in reinforcing discipline at the Bar. His address was both a wake-up call and a roadmap for aligning advocacy with integrity.

The training, recognized under the NBA-ICLE framework, also earned participating lawyers one (1) CPD point and was widely described as both timely and transformative.

In her closing remarks, the Chairperson, Rashidat Mohammed, thanked the distinguished resource persons for their rich contributions and reaffirmed the branch’s unrelenting commitment to raising a disciplined, knowledgeable, and ethically sound Bar in Sokoto and beyond.
