According to a harrowing report by the International Labour Organization (ILO), an estimated 24.9 million people were trapped in forced labor as of 2016—many working under threat or coercion in homes, farms, factories, and even in the sex industry.
Shockingly, 3.8 million adults and 1 million children were forced into sex work, while another 15.4 million were pushed into marriages that often masked further exploitation and servitude.
