Renowned legal academic and Chair of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lawyers in Academia Forum, Professor Foluke Dada-Lawanson, has expressed deep anguish and outrage over the tragic and brutal killing of Bright Nda Owhor, Esq., a young and dedicated member of the NBA Port Harcourt Branch.

In her condolence message, Professor Dada-Lawanson mourned the loss of a lawyer she described as “a rising star in the legal profession whose life and potential were cruelly extinguished.”

“This was not just a loss—it was a violent robbery of hope, justice, and the ideals we strive to uphold as lawyers,” she lamented.

Condemning the manner of his death, she stated: “The brutality with which Bright’s life was taken is unacceptable, heartbreaking, and a direct assault on the legal community and the values we defend.”

Professor Dada-Lawanson called for urgent justice: “This heinous act must not go unanswered.

Those responsible must be brought to justice without delay. We cannot afford to normalise violence or remain silent in the face of such injustice.”

She urged security agencies to intensify their efforts in safeguarding legal practitioners, saying, “No lawyer should live in fear for choosing a path of justice. The safety of our colleagues must be treated as a matter of national importance.”

Offering prayers for his family, she said: “May his loved ones find the strength to bear this painful loss, and may his legacy inspire us to remain bold, committed, and unrelenting in our pursuit of justice.”

Bright Nda Owhor’s memory,” she added, “must not fade into silence—it must compel action.”
