The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, CON, on Thursday delivered a compelling keynote address at the 2025 Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja Branch Law Week, calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s judiciary and a proactive embrace of emerging legal frontiers.

“The wheels of justice must not only move — they must move swiftly,” he asserted. “Delays erode public confidence and undermine the credibility of the judiciary. We must be intentional about time-bound justice.”

In a visionary section of his address, the Deputy Speaker urged the legal community to embrace innovation and modernize court processes through technology.

He cited LegalTech, blockchain, and artificial intelligence as transformative tools that can revolutionize legal practice, enhance transparency, and expedite judicial processes.

He also encouraged legal practitioners to expand their horizons beyond conventional fields of law. He specifically mentioned cryptocurrency law, space law, and wealth management as emerging areas that present new opportunities for professional development and national advancement.

“Our legal profession must not remain static in a rapidly evolving world,” Hon. Kalu said. “We must look to the future, invest in legal education, and encourage lawyers to lead in new areas of legal thought and practice.”
