Abuja, Nigeria – June 18, 2025
President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Emeka J.P. Obegolu, SAN, Ph.D, has urged the Nigerian business community to actively explore investment opportunities in the global space economy, which is currently valued at over $546 billion.
Obegolu made this call during his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Africa Space Economy Conference and Exhibition (ASEC) held at the Prince Adetokunbo Kayode Trade and Convention Centre, Abuja.
The event, jointly organised by ACCI and the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), brought together stakeholders from government, academia, the private sector, and international partners to discuss Africa’s place in the growing global space economy.
Speaking on the theme “Space Economy and Emerging Markets in Africa,” Obegolu described the moment as a pivotal opportunity for Nigeria to move beyond traditional sectors and tap into high-tech industries with immense potential for economic growth and employment generation.

“Africa—and Nigeria in particular—must stop viewing the space economy as a distant dream. It is now a present reality with vast opportunities for innovation, industrial growth, and job creation,” he said.
He emphasised the need for public-private collaboration and stronger policy frameworks to unlock space-related opportunities in areas such as satellite development, remote sensing, telecommunications, and climate data analysis.
Obegolu commended the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji; NASRDA Director General, Dr. Matthew Olumide Adepoju; and members of the ACCI Executive Council, including Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, Dr. Aliyu Ifi Hong, and Mr. Osi Imomoh for their visionary leadership in making the event possible.
He concluded by calling on Nigerian entrepreneurs, tech innovators, and investors to take bold steps toward positioning the country as a key player in Africa’s space economy.
