The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association – Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), recently constituted by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NBA, held its inaugural meeting on Monday, 20th May 2025.
This committee, which also functions as an Interim Management Committee, was constituted at the NEC Meeting held on 15th May 2025 in Ilorin, Kwara State, following the dissolution of the Steve Adehi, SAN-led SPIDEL Steering Committee set up by the immediate past NBA administration.
The newly inaugurated committee, chaired by Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, with Kunle Edun, SAN, Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, Saadatu Mohammed, Mojirayo Ogunlana, Enome Amatey, and Okey Leo Ohagba (Secretary) as members, expresses its deep appreciation to the President of the NBA, Mazi (Sir) Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN (KSC), for the trust and responsibility placed on its shoulders at this critical time.
In a statement following the inaugural meeting, the Committee declared its unanimous and unreserved acceptance of the assignment and pledged readiness to “hit the ground running” towards the revival of SPIDEL as the operational heartbeat of the Bar.

As a first step, the Committee will convene a Virtual Stakeholders’ Engagement Session on Friday, 30th May 2025 at 4:00 PM, where all SPIDEL stakeholders and Bar leaders will engage in a robust dialogue to chart a collective and inclusive path forward for the Section. The meeting link will be circulated to all relevant stakeholders.
In preparation for the upcoming NBA Annual General Conference (AGC) in Enugu, the Committee is also making arrangements for SPIDEL’s full participation, including organizing key sessions and activities. Details of the SPIDEL AGC program and the electoral guidelines for the election of SPIDEL Council members will be made available in due course.
All existing members of SPIDEL are encouraged to regularize their membership, while new members are warmly welcomed to join and participate in this new chapter.
The Committee reassures the legal community and the general public of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and democratic process that will usher in new leadership for SPIDEL.
It also affirms SPIDEL’s dedication to promoting public interest, challenging impunity, and defending the rule of law for the development of Nigeria.

In executing its mandate, the Committee pledges full collaboration with the NBA President, the National Executive Council, and other statutory bodies of the Association, in line with the NBA Constitution and SPIDEL’s core objectives.
Long Live NBA-SPIDEL!
Long Live the Nigerian Bar Association!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
